As winter draws closer and your days seem to be getting shorter, you notice how you wake up to darkness and arrive home in the evening in darkness. The thought of doing any after-work activity is merely that - just a thought. As you stick on some cosy slippers and sink into your sofa with your comfort food, it's hard to find any' motivation to get up and out during the winter months.
Recognise this pattern? Try to break the winter blues by motivating yourself to stay fit and healthy, eat well and build up your immune system, exercise and breathe in the refreshing winter air. We promise, you will emerge from the winter months looking rosy, healthy and with a fit body, instead of dry, flaky skin and extra pounds.
Here's how:
Just because you leave work and it's dark outside, resist the temptation to head straight home, and instead opt for a session at the gym several times a week.
Bring with you a sports bag full of warm and cosy work out gear, and make use of the jacuzzi or sauna if possible to melt away the winter cold before heading home. The endorphins your body releases during exercises with lift your spirits despite the gloomy weather.
If you can face the chilly weather, take your exercise outdoors and go for a brisk walk or a run. Exercising in very cold weather actually means that you burn more calories - now that's a great incentive!
A lack of natural sunlight in the wintertime can actually make you feel more sluggish than usual. Be sure to get outside during the day rather than eat lunch at your desk.
A walk, a trip to the post office, some window shopping or a walk through the park during your break times will ensure you get your nesessary sunlight fix.
Remember, just because it's cold doesn't mean you sweat any less, so remember to drink plenty of water. To give your motivation a boost, why not treat yourself to a great new set of work out gear - for both indoor and out?
Remember when exercising outdoors to dress in layers, with beathable fabric against your skin. If outdoors, remember a hat and gloves so you don't become uncomfortably cold. So get up and get moving, and before you know it, winter will be over and you will be looking gorgeous.
