Foot Health - What's Good for the Soles?
Did you know that most foot health problems are a direct result of squeezing into bad fitting shoes?
To start with, if you have foot health problems that a simple pedicure won't cure, a visit to a chiropodist will start your feet on the road to recovery. Bumps, bunions and callouses can be removed professionally along with that annoying, hard skin.
Any other problems you have can be discussed and remedied with your chiropodist. This is not a scary thing to do - if you're embarrassed of your feet, don't be -
you can be sure that your chiropodist has seen feet 10 times worse at some point.
Here are some hints and helpful advice
- Keep your nails short and straight. The right pedicure tools will give you a professional look and help you avoid problems such as ingrowing toenails.
- Never cut cuticles, just treat them with a cuticle remover cream.
- Check for nail fungi - strange color or odd odor is a sign you need some treatment. Ask your pharmacist for an over-the-counter treatment and be sure to follow the instructions exactly. Or you may prefer to talk to your doctor first.
- Use a soft nail brush to clean under the tips of the nails to remove dirt and bacteria each evening.
- Dry your feet carefully after bathing. Damp skin in between the toes can lead to problems.
- Small bumps can be treated at home, as can corns and blisters - but use the right product. Don't think a pair of scissors cures everything, you may end up damaging delicate skin.
- Oh, and from now on, choose shoes that fit - we mean really fit. Feet change as we get older, don't be afraid to ask to get your feet measured. I promise you there are some fantastic shoe styles waiting for you whatever your foot size, shape or width.
- If you don't stop wearing footwear that puts the squeeze on daily, your feet will never forgive you later in life and your foot health will suffer.
Good foot health is for life. Don't grow old not being able to hop, skip and a jump as you should due to problem feet. Remember your feet are an essential part of your overall well-being.
