How to Minimize Dark Circles
There is a time in our life when simply a couple of early nights would make those dark under-eye circles disappear. A time when we rarely thought about dotting extra concealer under our eyes and alongside the top of our nose. Three early nights in a row, dark circles would vanish and we would look fresh and rosy ready for the next big party.
So what happens when even 7 early nights in a row still leaves us with dark circles, and worst still, holiday baggage under our eyes? Before you head off to the nearest surgeon, there are some tricks and tips you should know about...
- Try using an eye mask a couple of times a week. This helps reduce any puffiness you have around the eye area. Tea bags and slices of cucumber also help - really!
- Use an eye cream every night, without fail. Pat it gently around your eye, taking care not to drag the skin. If you are at the age where early nights don't banish dark circles, then are you at the age when you should start using an eye cream regularly.
- Use a clean, soft, makeup sponge to apply foundation under and around your eye, and over the eyelid. Blend well.
- Using a good quality concealer that exactly matches your skin tone, dot the concealer on the inside of your nose near the corner of your eye, and under the eye following the line of your dark circles.
- Blend the concealer in well either using a small, soft brush, or the tip of your third finger, patting gently.
- A good trick to try in place of concealer, is to save your old foundation jars and use the bits of dried up foundation in the bottom as your concealer. It actually works very well when applied with a fine brush, and the bonus is that it's an exact color match with your foundation.
- Apply a little powder to your eye lid and eye socket to give makeup some staying power. But never, ever powder the skin directly under your eyes, it makes lines and wrinkles look worse.
- Avoid putting eye liner under your eyes, it will draw attention to the dark circles. Try just a layer of mascara on your lower lashes to open up your eyes.
There you have it. Simple advice that makes a big difference with little effort. It's time to kiss those dark circles around your eyes bye-bye.
