Weight Loss - is it Mind Over Matter?

The latest weight loss schemes seem to be aimed at our brains rather than at our bodies. With the right thoughts, we are meant to be able to drop kilos more easily. We have all read about the power of positive thinking, and how this can affect many areas of our life.

And now, with any kind of diet and weight-loss scheme, it seems that our brain, rather than our body, is the key.

You are amongst many if you slowly, but surely, let stress, laziness or lack of motivation lay kilos on your hips, stomach and thighs. And there are even more of us who say that it will be gone by the summer. We've all been there, every single one of us at some point in time. At the same time, we know that the weight loss may never happen.

Most of us have tried the obvious - varous diets from powders to the trendy GI method, to short bursts of visiting the gym. And the only thing that happens is that some kilos do vanish, only to reappear some months later.

The western world is full of over-weight people. And yet, it's fair to say that we are obsessed with products on the market concerning balanced nutrition, excercise, vitamins, general health and weight-loss. Never before have we had so much choice, and never before have so many promises been made to us, and by us.

We all know we should eat an apple instead of a bag of chips for a snack. So why don't we? Why aren't we using the knowledge we have to protect and improve our health for the future?

The key could be that we need help with our cognitive reasoning. Learning and understanding what the underlying cause is that makes us reach for the junk food instead of the fruit bowl. It's about learning to take control of our feels and emotions and channel them into taking positive actions, instead of negative.
