No, we really don't need to jog to get fit. And that means we don't need to spend money on trendy jogging gear. Best of all, we can forgo the heavy breathing, moaning and groaning that accompanies the average jogger.
Walking is absolutely the most effective and nicest way to keep your weight down. And if you can get out for a walk for around 100 minutes per week, than you will be able to keep a steady weight much more easily than sporadic visits to the gymnasium.
Most people like to walk. It's easy, cheap and the risk of injury is minimal. Therefore the chances are we'll keep up this form of exercise better than other types of training that we either tire of after a few weeks, cannot fit into our schedules, or can't afford the gym or swimming club fees.
Think of all the ways you can incorporate a walk into your routine. Are your local shops within walking distance? have you a dog that needs to take long walks? Are you house-hunting in the area - walking is a great way to view the properties on sale! Are you looking for new ideas for your spring garden? A long walk allows you to take a peek at the front gardens of other houses for ideas. Try and make a single walk last at least 20 minutes at a normal pace. Don't dawdle along, but on the other hand there is no rush. Find a rhythm and have a goal - the beach, a park, or a shop. And give yourself a pat on the back when you get home again.
Easy, wasn't it?
