Staying Slim and Fit During the Winter
Summer is almost over, and you've managed to stay slim, fit and active throughout the summer months. Thanks to
drinking gallons of water to stay cool, eating salads al fresco, ánd eating all the fruit in season. We all tend to eat healthier during the warmer months.
But while the middle of the day still sees temperatures warm enough to justify still wearing
our summer fashions, early morning and evenings call for a sweater or jacket. And that can only mean one thing - autumn and winter
will shortly be knocking on our door.
Of course we tend to eat more hot foods in cooler weather. And most of us tend to eat more, stay inside more, and that means less exercise.
Some extra effort must go into watching what you eat and maintaining a healthy diet to stay slim and fit throughout the winter.
Here are a few tips to follow if you know that the onset of cooler months means you are prone to weight gain. Make up your mind
before hand to be wise about your diet and by the time springtime comes around again you won't be struggling to lose those winter pounds.
- If you're easily prone to gaining weight, consider joining a group such as weight-watchers. Weekly meetings can be sun and sociable as well
as informative and helpful to help you keep your ideal weight before you start gaining those winter pounds.
- Treat yourself to some new winter wardrobe items that combat bad weather. Winter rain jackets, snow boots, ear muffs and furry hats
are fun and fashionable and will ensure that no matter what the weather, you will be able to be outside comfortably for those
autumn walks and winter hikes.
- Throw out all those "fat" clothes - the ones you only wear if you gain a few pounds. This will encourage you to keep to your
ideal weight knowing that if you go up in size, you'll have to go naked as they will be nothing in the wardrobe to fit you.
- Take the kids swimming. Find an indoor swimming pool near you and make a weekly date to go swimming after school with the children. Most kids
love this activity and it's for all ages. It's fitness for the whole family.
- Stop picking at the children's left overs. Fussy eaters may mean cooking different dishes for children who aren't so keen
on fruit and vegetables. But that's no reason to gobble up their left over potatoes, pastas and sauces.
- Ask your partner to snap a photo of you wearing just your underwear. Pin the photo up on your bedroom mirror and be critical
about yourself. If you love your body then sensible winter eating will keep your body in trim. If you want to change
things then you have a goal to achieve before next spring arrives.
- Don't deprive yourself. Be sensible about your eating habits and don't go without the things you love, you'll only be miserable and less
inclined to stick to any kind of healthy eating plan. Treat yourself to that curry once a week or that chocolate bar every Saturday morning. But make sure the rest
of the time you stick to your healthy eating rules.
- It's hard to get motivated to move when it's frosty or raining outside. But if you're eating well you will find you have more energy
to do the things you love - whatever the weather.
