Help Yourself Get Motivated
Planning an exercise regime of any kind can, well, forever seem to be in the planning stage only.
Good intentions remain just that, and any action can easily be put back to another day.
The truth is, if we really set our mind to it, most of us could easily squeeze in a simple 30 minutes exercise
routine daily. If you really want to makes it happen, will-power is the name of the game and setting a few goals
is a good start:
- Post a promisory note to yourself on your fridge door. Write out your intentions for your exercise routine
and read then daily. Make yourself a priority and be sure the rest of the family see it too so they can prompt you
to live up to your own expectations.
- Treat yourself. If you workout during the week just as your promisory
note states, then treat yourself. That could mean a new lipstick or a houseplant, whatever makes you happy that doesn't
cost a fortune. Go ahead, rewards are always a good incentive.
- Make your goals attainable and not impossible.
Don't set your goals too high to start with. Don't set a routine too strict that can easily get thrown if you have a
sick child during the week for example. A weekly routine is usually beneficial rather than a daily routine. If something
unexpected happens one day you can make up for it the next. The important thing is too make progress.
- Keep a
log. Record your progress by jotting down the form of exercise you do plus the length of time you exercised. Include
the highs and lows of your emotions as you work towards your goals. You will be able to refer back to your journal from
time to time and give yourself a pat on the back when you see just how far you've come.
- Pay yourself. Just like
you get paid for the job you do, $10 in the pot towards a spa day, a new hair do, or a visit to the beauty salon is
enough to get you moving.
