7 Simple Steps to Better Health
If your diet and eating habits need an overhaul, the prospect can be quite daunting.
With so many different foods, recipes, advise and dietary information available now, the road to eating
healthy can be confusing, and overwhelming.
Jump start your will-power with these 7 easy steps that deliver health benefits every body needs:
-
Eat your greens. The words of our mothers and grandmothers still ring in our ears as they did when growing up.
However, never a truer word has been spoken. The importance of green leafy vegetables in our diet cannot be overstated.
They contain properties such as carotenoids and micronutrients that just don't turn up in other foods as often. So start
today and try and include spinach, broccoli, kale or dark green cabbage in your diet every single day. There
just aren't enough of us who do this.
- Look for the words non-hyhydrogenated vegetable oil
(for example soybean or olive) on food packets. That's the healthy variety. Cut out the trans fats. You body will live
better without them.
- Do you know how much sugar is present in fruit juice? too much. Try and include
daily fresh fruit instead. Most fruit is portable and peelable so easy to consume almost anywhere.
- Drink water instead of soda. If you are at home or work, then every time you pass
a water tap, stop to take a drink. All of a sudden you can boost your water intake and avoid the urge for suguary drinks
or too much tea or coffee which can be dehydrating.
- Whole grains fill you up better than
refined grains. Therefore, if you are less inclined to snack on unhealthy alternatives during the day, your total
calories intake will be reduced. So checkout the breads and cereals that include whole grains instead. They actually
taste better too.
- Walk an extra 20 minutes. Start off earlier in the morning and walk past
a few bus stops before hopping onto the bus. Or find a new car park that makes you walk 10 minutes to the office and
10 minutes from the office again at the end of the day. Take the long way round whenever you park and walk to the shops
or a restaurant. That extra 20 minutes per day can make a huge difference to your calorie burn-up.
- Find a
quality multivitamin and buy the biggest jar you can find. Place in a prominant position on the
kitchen shelf and swallow one each morning after breakfast. What you're not getting in your daily diet can be topped
up. Find one that suits your stage in life - perhaps you need extra calcium or extra iron too. Don't underestimate the
benefits of popping this pill each morning.
