How to break free of stress

There is a stress-free time, in your early twenties. It's when you have just left university days behind you and are taking a first step in your career. The days that feel pretty care-free.

Stress is a word you seldom use. You work your hours, do your best, leave the office and head for the restaurant with your new friends. You've money in your pocket and share an apartment with your best friend. Stress-related issues are just not a part of your daily life.

Not yet.

Life is pretty sweet and when you hear others say they are completely stressed out, you find it hard to sympathise and wonder what feeling stressed actually feels like.

Lucky you.

A relatively short time down the road of life and you could begin to find out. For many people, stress is part of daily living and can be triggered by any number of situations. How you cope with the stress is the key to ultimately conquering stress in your life. There are thousands of us looking for ways to de-stress our lives.

It's bad for yor health. Both mental and physical. And the best way to deal with stress is head on. Facing the source, recognizing the symptons of stress - such as sleepless nights, poor appetite, irritablility, headaches - and working towards solving the problem that is the cause and therefore avoiding the stress altogether.

It's not something you have to live with.

Break the stress cycle by talking. Get the support of your friends, your boss, your teacher, your spouse, your bank manager. Replace a professinal therapist with your best friend.

Try and remain calm. Point out what's happening to you. Make them understand this is seriously affecting you. But at the same time offer a solution - redistributing workload, time share, working from home, hiring extra help, implementing a money-saving budget, for example. Rather than just highlighting the problem, present possible solutions so you can immediately start working towards lifting the stress-related burden from your shoulders.

You may be surprised at just how many people are willing to help if they are aware that your suffer from stress, or that you are living a stressful situation that's hard to cope with.

Chances are, they've been there too.
